The Midas Baja SSII and the Canada Dry Baja SSII were both Midas built SSII's.
From what I have learned from Jim Allen and John Glancy, we know 82 were built. All Midas SSII vin numbers start with the prefix J0052. (all 79 Scout SSII's vin start with J0052)
Best way to confirm you have a Midas SSII is to purchase the LST (line set ticket). These can be ordered through any light line dealer or from the Wisconsin Historical Society.
Tim Smolinski is another great source for the Midas SSII history and information, he has been collecting them for years and started the Midas SSII registry.
I highly recommend you buy the Scout Encyclopedia for a complete history of all Scouts and the models produced.
These were sold in a range of colors, dark brown metallic being the larger number produced, but there were blues, blacks, reds, etc. Any CT-399 color could be ordered as well.
To date, I believe Jim Allen has confirmed around 20-21 still in existence. We suspect there are more, and probably will find more of them as the word gets out on what to look for.
So how do you know if you have a Midas SSII?
1- get a LST ticket- there will be a notation on the top left hand side showing it went to Midas
2- there are specific designations on the line set ticket regarding Midas options:
Midas
3- seats are specific to this model - if yours has these seats good chance it was a Midas SSII (but these were available to be purchased from a dealership separately)
4- center console- another option that could be bought separately from a dealership- but another tail tale sign it might be a Midas SSII.
Contact me with your Scout's information, and I will be glad to help confirm what you have and let you know if yours has any oddities that make it unique!!
I have highlighted on this LST, the Midas SSII specific options. Some or all could be on a Midas SSII. This particular Midas SSII has brown interior (10680) with black exterior.
Note- the J0052 in the vin designates that it is a SSII model. Does not designate it as a Midas SSII.
These seats are specific to a Midas SSII. While anyone could go and order these from a dealer, the majority were installed in these Midas SSII. Without them, you have no Midas SSII.
These side panels were only found in the Midas SSII, and are factory correct.
Like all SSII, even the Midas SSII were ordered/optioned differently.
Interior colors for the Midas SSII were Blue 10678, Green 10679, Brown 10680, and Russett 10681.
I have only seen the blue, brown and russet interior colors so far. Would love to see one with the green interior!
